HopeBox 2023

HopeBox is a mixture of street food, on-trend market, entertainment and community engagement. The event will be held on the 3rd September 2023. We will work on the location being along Southchurch Road and release more details in late October, early November.

3rd September 2023  -  12PM UNTIL 8PM

Our aims and philosophy for the event are numerous.

To celebrate the varied cultures of our community through food, design, music, art & drama.

Southend will grow, with the addition of Thames Freeport, expansion of the airport, development of the town and the planned infrastructure.

HopeBox is our welcome to future business and residents to the forgotten part of Southend. Highlighting what a diverse, vibrant, exciting and progressive area Southchurch is. To re-establish it’s importance to Southend, a reminder that there is life east of the Kursaal.

We want residents to celebrate the area they live in. To embrace the vision and belief of change and improvement.

We want to promote the area, in terms of retail. To coincide with our Southchurch Retail, R.I.B.S and Concept Southchurch initiatives.

The regeneration of Southchurch is a project that will take many years to achieve. HopeBox will be an ideal vehicle to reengage with the whole community, and promote Southchurch to our future residents and businesses.

Street Food, Urban Market & Entertainment

The main part of the event will be Street Food.

We will be inviting a wide selection of street food traders. The choice will be representative of the cultures living within Southchurch and Southend, but also the wider world.

We will bring a festival of colour, .

We will also encourage our established traders within Southchurch Retail (Southchurch Road, Eastern Esplanade, Woodgrange Drive & Hamstel Road) to open their doors on the day, provide great deals on food and drink or discounts on items, promoting Southchurch.

Urban Market

An Urban Market is a mixture of on-trend markets, selling food, drink, craft, clothing, accessories and art, with Street food - representative of the culture within the area and borough.

We will also promote an eclectic range of traders to celebrate the diversity of our county and Nation.

Entertainment

Southchurch Road Car Park will host a stage so you can be entertained by local talent through music, dance and drama.

A community Zone will be set in and around this festival..

Bales of Hay will be strategically placed throughout the event, so you can eat and enjoy your food, listen to the entertainment or simply watch the world go by.

Local Artists will be dotted around the festival, creating, LIVE, new masterpieces. I’m sure you can put in an offer to the artist on the day, if you like it that much.

BikeTrax

In partnership with Southend Community Police Team and Forward Motion we have hosted a number of BikeTrax Events.

The events are designed for people to come and have their bikes and have their bikes ‘serviced’ and security marked.

They can also take the opportunity to speak to the Community Police Team and other agencies who maybe present.

The next event is scheduled for 28th December 2022, on Ilfracombe Avenue Car Park with the junction of Southchurch Road between 10am - 12. See you there.

Bare Naked

Our Bare Naked Community Markets are due to be launched in 2023.

The markets are for local traders selling, food, craft, drink and art. Fashion design, household items and almost anything you can think of.

The markets will be aimed at providing products from cultures represented across the city, the young and anybody interested.

The only thing is, there must be biodegradable packaging if any used, bare naked waste.

Hope you can join us.

Happy Street Southchurch.

Project Southchurch aim to introduce Happy Streets to Southchurch Road.

The Happy Street event is a simple idea, to promote the independent traders along Southchurch Road, without disrupting traffic flow.

It creates a safe space to enjoy the shopping experience along the road, by reducing the speed limit to 20mph and creating a shared space area for traffic, giving pedestrians the right of way.

The reconfiguration of the highway would be temporary, for between 4 and 6 hours at least. We will install barriers to increase the protection of pedestrians.

There will be no road closures, diversions of bus routes and parking suspensions.

A chance for local restuaunts, pubs, traders and churches to become part of the community footprint for a set number of hours. To promote what they offer. A benefit to the community

Local traders can have special offers for the day, the final decision is ultimately theirs.

In addition to this we will have buskers playing along the route and have entertainment and stalls in the Car Parks along the events footprint.

We want to promote Southchurch Road as a place to visit and relax with friends and enjoy what the EastQuarter of Southend has to offer.

Event Flag & Branding

Thank you to a designer friend of ours, who used Project Southchurch as practice for their students working on event branding. It will appear around our events in the future. This is not our official corporate identification, it simply represents fun
