It was great that so many businesses joined us on our 2nd Business Expo on 5th September at Southend Christian Fellowship - The Plaza. A fantastic opportunity for local businesses to network with other business organisations. The opportunity to highlight the potential of the EastQuarter as a influential and important trading area of Southend.
The Expo was opened by Colin Ansell the CEO of Southend City Council with a speech from Cllr Matt Dent portfolio holder for business. We were also glad that Cllr Daniel Cowan, leader of Southend City Council, came to support the event.
The Expo was hosted in partnership with SCC Business Development Team, sponsored by Amber Mortgage Solutions and our event Media Partner was Southend City Radio.
The 3rd Southchurch Business Expo will be held on 18th September 2025 at Southend Christian Fellowship - The Plaza.
As from 2024 we will be celebrating the very first Southchurch Day. The actual day is 12th June, however, the celebrations will be on the closest Saturday to the day itself. So the first Southchurch Day started with a history walk from The Walnut Tree and made its way along Southchurch Road and down to Southchurch Hall Gardens.
When they arrived at the gardens there was re-enactments, games, music and craft stalls to enjoy. Southend Museums opened Southchurch Hall for families and friends to immerse themselves in history. We were grateful for the current High Sheriff, David Hurst to join us.
Why the 12th of June? It’s the date in 1267 that Richard de Southchurch stood down as Sherriff of Hertfordshire and Essex. We wanted a date in the middle of the year and that’s what our Director of History and Heritage came up with.
There is more to Richard than meets the eye. During the 2nd Barons War, Richard stole roosters and inserted them with incendiary devices to catapult towards his enemies. Which is the reason Ricky the Rooster plays a prominent part in celebration, the revenge of the rooster.
There will be more information in our business section if you want to find out more. We are proud to launch our very first Business Expo in Partnership with Southend Business Partnership and Economic Development Team at Southend City Council.
